What to Do If It Rains on Your Wedding Day

Whether it is a little drizzle or a full on downpour, rain doesn’t have to dampen your wedding day. In fact, in some cultures, rain on your wedding day is deemed to be lucky. We can’t control the weather, but we can still plan for it so you still have a cracking wedding day!

1. Make a Plan B

No matter the time of year, it is always worth spending a bit of time making a plan for if it rains on your wedding day. Think about the outdoor parts of the day and agree with your venue an alternative plan for if the weather is too wet, windy, too cold or even snowing. Planning an outdoor ceremony? Or maybe a first dance outside with your live band? Check in with your suppliers too. They will appreciate being part of the conversation. That way everyone knows ahead of time what to do, so you don’t have to get involved on the day.

2. Get umbrellas & boots

Umbrella for the hair and wellies for your toes! Stock up on big umbrellas to protect yourselves from the rain. You can even pack a pair of boots for your feet. Clear umbrellas are great so that faces are not total obscured from cameras but I do love big colourful ones too. Check with your venue as they often have umbrellas for you.

3. Throw the confetti

Rain doesn’t mean that you have to abandon throwing confetti. Check with your venue. Some will allow confetti to be thrown indoors which will make fantastic photos, and mean everyone can still take part.

4. Get outdoors

Rain doesn’t mean that we have to stay indoors all day. Trust your photographer to find a sheltered location for you to still get some cool photos. Experienced photographers will know how to create cool lighting effects after dark to make those photos super special.

5. Roam indoors

Go for a walk with me and let’s find some cool spots inside your venue to take photos. It’s a good opportunity to take a breather too and enjoy each other’s company.

6. Be flexible

Part of embracing the rain, means that you get to switch up your day. Keep an open mind and be flexible with timings wherever you can. Maybe that might mean doing confetti as part of your first dance, or group shots after dinner when it stops raining, or sparklers at dusk before evening downpours.

7. Take groups inside

Don’t panic, if it rains all day, we will aim to do your group shots inside. Talk to your venue and make sure they have allocated sufficient space and access for us to work indoors.

8. Embrace It

At first you may feel deflated at the sight of rain, but my advice is don’t let it ruin your day. The best memories that you can create will come because you focused on enjoying yourself with your nearest and dearest.

And if you are up for dancing in the rain, I am right there with you! Whatever the weather, you can have an awesome memorable day!
